About SME Bank


Established in 2005, SME Bank is one of the nation’s leading Development Financial Institution (DFI) wholly-owned by the Ministry of Finance, regulated by Bank Negara Malaysia and supervised by Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP).

SME Bank is fully committed in driving the nation’s economic growth by providing not only financial assistance, but also offering training and development programmes to small and medium scale enterprises (SME) to spur holistic business growth .

SME Definition

Bank Negara Malaysia has revised the definition of SME through a notification issued on 27 December 2017 which details are as follows :

Broadly, the definition has been simplified under two categories, namely :

  • Manufacturing: Sales turnover not exceeding RM50 million OR full-time employees not exceeding 200 workers; and

  • Services and other sectors: Sales turnover not exceeding RM20 million OR full-time employees not exceeding 75 workers.

Services & Other Sectors Sales turnover from RM300,000 to less than RM3 million OR full-time employees from 5 to less than 30 Sales turnover from RM3 million to not exceeding RM20 million OR full-time employees from 30 to not exceeding 75
